Excellent Frames For Fitness Skating Review by skaterWade

I purchased a pair of these frames recently as a fitness/training tool and so far I'm loving them! The lack of roll compared to big wheels is something I was actually looking for to make things a little harder for myself over a given training distance, helping me achieve a higher heart rate. With minimal effort, I modified the frames to fit the 195mm mount size common on most modern speed and fitness skates (actually just drilled a single hole in each frame rather than a full slot and used the lateral adjustment built in to my Powerslide R4 boots to position them where I needed them). A big plus for these boots is the low cost of 80mm wheels compared to the 100s, 110s, and 125s. Perfect for my purpose. A hidden benefit is the ability to mount three 110mm wheels in the first, third, and fifth wheel positions. This worked with my R4s (and likely many other boots as well) and is a great flexibility point for these things if you want to occasionally mix things up with more roll, if you anticipate rolling over really rough asphalt, or whatever other purpose suits you. This, along with the idea that you could most likely omit the third wheel and burn up old sets of four wheels from your rec skates in 80mm and smaller sizes, makes the 5x80s one of the most flexible "Swiss Army Knife" training setups I can imagine. And all that is not to discount the idea that, in the right hands (i.e. someone much faster than me), these things have historically been used to lay down very fast race times. The 5x80 setup is similar (if not the same?) setup used to set the North Shore Inline Marathon sub-one-hour record that stood as an overall marathon record for many, many years. All-in-all, for the right application and at this price, these things are tough to beat! (Posted on 5/12/2016)
